E-Commerce Grant Scheme Announced

As only 14% of Maltese businesses presently sell anything online, the Government has recently launched a €5 million fund aimed at encouraging and supporting small and medium sized enterprises in adopting e-commerce as part of their business operations.

The scheme is designed to support SMEs with the design, development, implementation and delivery of an e-commerce website and/or a mobile application and/or upgrading of an existing website or mobile application to enable online sales. The funding is capped at €5000 per applicant, which could make up to 50% of the investment being made by the enterprise.

Costs which are eligible for part-financing under this scheme include:
– Domain name registration and hosting fees.
– Content Management System (CMS) software including required licenses.
– e-commerce Website and/or Mobile Application design, setup, customization and testing.
– Shopping Cart and payment gateway integration.
– Integration of web analytics to monitor traffic and usage.

This Grant Scheme is part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020, and the availability of funds is on an open rolling call basis, so enterprises may apply whenever they identify the need that may be assisted under this scheme and public calls will be issued with periodical cut off dates until Dec 2020.
